A number of foreign universities have set up campuses through partnership with existing institutes and international universities in India. These universities work in collaboration with each other and offer a global perspective to the students.
In March 2010 the Government of India approved a plan to create International Universities. They invited various foreign universities to come to India and provide Indian students with a wide spectrum of courses recognized globally. The project aims to bring on a single platform the universities and research centers in India and abroad. This program was started as an effort to provide students with diverse options in high-quality educational institutes.
International Universities in India
There are four main Foreign Universities in India that have collaborations with various Indian institutes. These are:
• Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech)
Originally from Blacksburg, the polytechnic it is located in Maduravoyal, Chennai. Virginia Tech, India provides Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in engineering and sciences.
• Schulich School of Business
This university is located Internationally in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In India SP Jain Institute of Management and Research in Mumbai has collaborated with the university. It provides an integrated MBA program during which students complete the first year of their Schulich MBA in India and the second year in Toronto, Canada.
• Middlesex University
Based in London, England, this university has five campuses in India. The regional offices are located in Delhi (Main office), Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai. It also has a representative office in Kolkata. Some the courses provided by this institute are BA Business Management, MA Management, MSc Investment and Finance and MSc Computer Networks.
• Duke University
Duke University is a private institute based in North Carolina. It has collaborations with three Indian universities, namely, the India Institute of Management in Bangalore, the Asoka University in Sonipat and the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad.The programs offered by this university include various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in various fields like business management, law, engineering and medicine.
Benefits of international programs
In general, these International Universities in India provide their students with various global features. The faculty and student exchange programs are conducted with top foreign institutes across the globe. It helps the students to understand various education standards throughout the globe. In several courses students get the chance to visit Partner Universities for completing their semesters abroad. The duration of these exchange programs can be from 6 months to a year.
Sometimes the students go to the partner universities for international exposure and to join various specialization programs. These Summer Program are of a short duration of 15 days to one month. Students get to represent their country and institute on an international platform through competitions conducted by these institutions at an international level.
